15 November 2021 marked a new dawn for the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) and gave impetus to its mission of strengthening civil society in West Africa. It will remain a memorable day in the annals of WACSI, as the Institute received confirmation of a generous gift through the Silicon Valley Community Foundation (SVCF).
The gift is the largest ever one-time donation to WACSI in its 17 years of existence (since its establishment in 2005).
The donation will enable WACSI build on its sustainability and resilience and invest into its mission of supporting civil society organisations to respond to the growing attack on civic freedoms in West Africa, which hampers civil society’s ability to inform their communities, represent constituents, mobilise and organise to achieve social change.
The Board and Staff of WACSI, express profound gratitude to the Foundation for this magnanimous support to civil society in West Africa and for WACSI’s work; one that will enable the Institute to remain at the service of civil society in West Africa and Africa and strengthen their engagement as critical partners to development.
